Mobile developers at WDFW started exploring the Flutter SDK in 2021. We built our first Flutter app for iOS and Android in under half the time it took for a single native platform. A reduction in total cost per app of ~75%. We have since rewritten all our apps with the Flutter SDK, including Fish Washington, a public-facing map-based fishing app, built on the ArcGIS Runtime APIs, backed by ArcGIS Enterprise. As Esri had not yet built a Flutter Plug-in for the ArcGIS Runtime API, we leveraged a third-party plug-in to rewrite Fish Washington. In the process, we added a ton of new GIS features.
