Through numerous international collaborations and projects, TCarta has contributed over 150,000 sq km of bathymetric data to the Seabed 2030 Project, a global ocean mapping effort. Through its partnership with Esri, TCarta has provided capacity building workshops and technology demonstrations to international hydrographic offices and Small Islands and Developing States. TCarta has engaged with the ocean mapping organizations in Maldives, Jamaica and Mexico to educate and empower the use of satellite based technologies, leveraging a variety of tools within the Esri platform to produce, visualize and share the resulting hydrospatial solutions with stakeholders and local communities.
Management and execution of large-scale hydrographic surveys is a highly complex and demanding task. Conventional procedures are manual and time-consuming, but eGIS and web applications can greatly improve workflow efficiency. A collection of online applications and robust services enhances survey planning, management, and quality control in an interactive online environment where surveyors, managers, and stakeholders collaborate. Survey progress and asset tracking is enhanced with an interactive real-time survey tracker and statistical driven dashboard, providing guidance and transparency in hydrographic surveys. A variety of data is served from the survey vessel to a cloud-based eGIS environment and integrated for situational awareness, quality control, and automated reporting. Field observations such as dangers and aids to navigation, protected species observations, and survey notes are geotagged and available in real-time for quality control and reporting. Utilizing a multi-faceted GIS approach not only increases efficiency and facilitates organization, it also reduces errors and promotes transparency in quality control and management of hydrographic surveys.
The QSI Acquisition Update & Review Application (Q-AURA) is an AGOL application that incorporates several related dashboards to track and communicate acquisition status of multiple sensor types between QSI and our clients. The dashboards include flight line status and percent complete for each AOI. Additional information tracks which sensors are operating on the project and how much they are contributing. Daily situational reports, submitted by the field crew using ArcCollector, are also displayed to provide details on successes and concerns during acquisition. Combined, these data can be reviewed by the client in lieu of daily emails which can get lost or ignored. Also included is information on current weather and turbidity conditions near acquisition to aid field crews in making decisions on when and where to fly. A separate functionality of Q-AURA is the review capabilities that allow the client to communicate feedback by interacting with a web app that displays draft rasters utilizing an editable feature class. QSI is then able to review and address client concerns. All data are feature services maintained in an enterprise database that is updated with custom scripts nightly.
