The Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA) is using ArcGIS Hub to share data and maps from a variety of public and private authoritative sources across the five U.S. Gulf states (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas). The Gulf of Mexico Open Data Platform uses Hub to provide the tools needed to create a single point of entry for users to discover, explore, and access Gulf-wide data from a variety of sources. Now GOMA is extending collaboration with their partners across the Gulf by co-developing common schema and sharing them as Feature Layer Views in Open Data Groups. This presentation will discuss the technical methods used to overcome a variety of technical challenges, as well the significant efforts across multiple Communities of Practice to minimize tasking and update anomalies, while maximizing exposure and usefulness of data contributions with Hub.
For many years researchers and resource managers working in the marine realm have faced challenges in obtaining and integrating data on important ecological resources and the benthic environment in general. This issue is a challenge not only within NOAA but also for regional and inter-agency partners. As such, the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative has provided funding for a data distribution mechanism modeled on the NOAA BioMapper to serve the region and potentially beyond the Great Lakes region in the future. In response, an inter-line office team has taken early steps to understand the data access challenges faced by the benthic data user and producer communities and develop solutions to improve coordinated access to NOAA benthic data through a next generation BioMapper project. This effort will align with NOAA data dissemination strategies and policies and will leverage commercial off-the-shelf software solutions. The goals are to advance access, discovery, and use of benthic habitat data for a wide range of applications, from conservation to marine planning and decision making. This effort supports NOAA’s mission and priorities like the America the Beautiful initiative.
The Hawaiʻi Green Growth UN Local2030 Hub is a public-private partnership committed to advancing the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through locally and culturally informed solutions. Utilizing ArcGIS technology, the Aloha+ Dashboard is the open data platform that measures progress on the six priority areas identified through the Aloha+ Challenge, and tracks Hawai‘i’s contribution towards all 17 UN SDGs for 2030 through stakeholder inclusively developed indicators and metrics. As one example, here, we present how ArcGIS and AGOL’s 3D modeling capabilities are used to develop indicators and metrics that aim to track impacts from sea level rise and increased riverine flooding on Hawaiʻi’s buildings, infrastructure, and economy. Through impact driven Indicators and metrics, the Dashboard meaningfully engages decision makers and can advance and inform Hawaii's resilience and adaptation strategies.
