NG911: Putting GIS Into Action to Revolutionize Emergency Communications
Next Generation 911 (NG911) modernizes emergency communications by improving the resilience of 911 services, facilitating interoperability between agencies, reducing misroutes, and supporting voice, text, and video for callers that cannot speak, hear, or communicate clearly. Learn how accurate GIS data is built and maintained to enable location based routing and faster response, and hear real-world examples of how NG911 and GIS together save lives and protect property in ways legacy 911 could not.

  • Improving NG911 Data Quality and Transformation Processes with ArcGIS

    Next Generation 911 requires numerous data format and quality standards for submission. The City of Des Moines maintains data (roads, addresses) for the Metro Area of Central Iowa, encompassing 3 counties and 12 municipalities. Users will find useful processes, such as Branch Versioning and Attribute Rules, that they can implement in their own environment to improve distributed editing. This greatly reduced staff time while improving data quality with input constraints and real-time error detection using technologies like the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript.

  • Hurricane Helene: Validating North Carolina NG911
    In September 2024, Hurricane Helene devastated areas of western North Carolina, obliterating infrastructure, destroying homes, and causing the deaths of hundreds. Attendees will learn how a single, statewide ESInet prevailed during this 1000-year storm. GIS underpins NG911, and without it, the critical function of re-routing calls is not easily achieved. The presenters will cover the technical makeup of the NG911 solution, 911 call routing options, challenges, and key success factors. Presenters will also highlight how NG911 addresses and roads are made available publicly through NC OneMap.
