  • Multi-Scale Mapping at the USGS: OnDemand Topos and topoBuilder
    The U.S. Geological Survey’s topoBuilder application allows users to request and customize topographic maps, referred to as OnDemand Topos. OnDemand Topos are designed using ArcGIS Pro and generated in topoBuilder using Esri’s Topographic Production Service. Additionally, these products have highly tailored specifications that drive data management and generalization requirements which are managed using Esri workflows. This presentation provides an overview of product requirements that drive the data preparation processes and map generation logic used to create OnDemand Topos.

  • Enhancing Cartographic Workflows at USGS with Workflow Manager Server
    In 2025, the Cartographic Products and Services Section of the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Geospatial Technical Operations Center migrated from Workflow Manager Classic to Workflow Manager Server. This shift and introduction of Portal modernize decade old workflows to improve efficiency in production, task management, and enhance collaboration. Opportunities for automation and tool integration help streamline workflows and reduce redundancy. This presentation will review how this migration resulted in faster delivery, improved tracking, and more agile cartographic operations.
