Join this session to learn how water utilities are building operational digital twins by connecting GIS, 3D models, infrastructure data, and asset management systems. The first presenter will share how a multiphase initiative created detailed 2D and 3D representations of treatment plant assets. The second presenter will share how lidar, BIM, ArcGIS, and Cityworks have been integrated for interactive asset management. These approaches have preserved institutional knowledge, improved maintenance planning, streamlined operations, and supported better infrastructure decisions.

  • Building a Digital Twin for Central San’s Wastewater Treatment Plant
    This spring, Central San embarked on a multi-year journey to implement a digital twin of our 32 MGD dry weather flow (up to 200 MGD wet weather flow) wastewater treatment plant and our 3.4 MGD recycled water filtration plant. This presentation will share the six initiatives that will lay the foundation for a fully immersive 2D/3D digital twin, covering indoor, outdoor, and underground infrastructure assets. This includes improvements to ArcGIS Enterprise, deployment of ArcGIS Indoors and ArcGIS GeoBIM, and expanded use of the ArcGIS Utility Network.

  • Transforming Municipal Infrastructure Management with 3D, ArcGIS, and Cityworks
    The City of Concord partnered with NV5 to implement a Scan-to-BIM-to-ArcGIS workflow, enhancing 3D asset management within Cityworks. The project includes lidar scanning of 12 water facilities, BIM model creation in Autodesk, and integration into a 3D GIS dataset using ArcGIS Pro. NV5 will develop a geodatabase, scene layer package, and a custom 3D widget for Cityworks Respond, enabling interactive, spatially accurate 3D asset management. This initiative streamlines asset lifecycle management and improves operational efficiency through integrated 3D data visualization and analysis.
