Conservation SIG: Advancing Indigenous-Led Conservation with Geospatial Solutions
Indigenous communities have stewarded the planet’s biodiversity for generations using Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK). Now, geospatial technology—GIS mapping, remote sensing, and participatory mapping—has become a crucial tool to protect ecosystems and assert Indigenous data sovereignty. This SIG explores how integrating TEK with modern tools strengthens conservation, land rights, and climate resilience. Learn from Indigenous leaders and experts about supporting ethical and effective Indigenous-led conservation efforts.
Reservations will be held until five minutes prior to the start time before seating will be opened to attendees in the on-site queue. If attendees with a reservation remove the session from their schedule, the next person on the wait list will automatically receive that open reservation. Wait lists will only be available before the conference. On-site walk-in attendance may be available dependent on room capacity and will be allowed on a first-come, first-served basis.
