Hot spot policing involves the targeted deployment of police patrols to the areas where crime is known to concentrate. Since 2024, all cities in England and Wales have been implementing hot spots policing to reduce violence. This presentation will illustrate the extent to which violence is concentrated, how this is then used to inform where patrols are targeted, what officers are required to do when on patrol in crime hot spots and the impact of these patrols. The presentation will describe how analysis has influenced further improvements to the timing, dosage and precision of the patrols.
