- Lightning Talk - GIS for Public Safety and Combating Organized Crime and Illegal Migration
The GIS system Territorial Police in the Bulgarian MoI aids police inspectors by providing timely data on inspected locations, past events, and individuals. It enhances officer safety, supports public security, and combats organized crime. The system drives digitalization of local workflows and information sharing. Using dynamic maps, location insights, and link analysis, it improves efficiency and results for police operations.

EU’s peacekeeping Operation Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina has, since July 2025, been supported by a Danish contribution. At EUFOR HQ in Camp Butmir, the Danish GIS Specialist provides geospatial support using ArcGIS Pro in an offline environment, producing maps and spatial analyses for mission planning. Frequent staff rotations create challenges for data consistency and documentation; therefore, it is important to maintain a constant focus on these aspects.

When obstacles arise along the route, such as destroyed bridges, rapid replanning is essential. This includes accounting for extended travel times and the integration of Convoy Support Centers. In this technical presentation, we demonstrate how ArcGIS, through its network and terrain analysis capabilities, supports these challenges and enables efficient, adaptive military logistics operations.
