This session showcases how building a strong technology foundation and leveraging technologies like remote sensing, strengthen energy operations from HSE to active infrastructure. PDO shares how its modernized GIS system supports critical business systems, while KSAT, supported by the European Space Agency, highlights EO projects that improve safety, efficiency, and environmental management. Together, these efforts demonstrate how geospatial innovation drives operational continuity and sustainability across the energy lifecycle.

Resilient GIS and Remote Sensing for Safe, Sustainable Energy Operations
Presentations
- GIS System Design InfrastructureFor so long the GIS Infrastructure in PDO Geomatics has experienced downtimes and plenty of technical issues due to arbitrary measures taken when implementing software and hardware infrastructure. The current Disaster Recovery (DR) design lacks efficiency and automatics switching g between Active and Passive sites. The new GIS System design involves studying the current infrastructure of existing systems, data and applications (As-Is), business requirements for the “To-Be” design, design methodology, conceptual architecture, logical architecture, database, and network architecture.

- Novel Approaches to Support Safe Energy Operations & Decommissioning ActivitiesThe development of new technologies and services in decommissioning and environmental management is crucial to the energy sector. Remote sensing is a key component of this and with funding from the European Space Agency, AVISAR & DECOM were developed. These projects led by KSAT with stakeholder engagement showcase the benefit of EO solutions to meet challenges in the energy sector whilst focusing on how such solutions can be implemented. This presentation will discuss the challenges identified and the GIS solutions developed to provide integration, efficiency and value to the lifecycle.
