- A Spatial Analysis of the Opioid Death Epidemic and Public Transportation
JCDH is a sub-recipient of the CDC-funded Overdose Data To Action (OD2A) grant via ADPH. A focus of our prevention efforts is determining the appropriate allocation of limited resources. JCDH conducted spatial analyses looking for patterns within our death certificate dataset and found a strong correlation between bus stops and overdose deaths. In 2021 54.8% of confirmed overdose deaths were within a 15-minute walk from a bus stop. This led to identifying the routes with the highest overdoses and the purchase of bus wraps to advertise addiction and recovery assistance programs.

- Geoenabled Public Health Surveillance in the Time of Data Modernization
Geoenabled data are a critical component of public health surveillance infrastructure. From the start of COVID-19 to present, the Georgia Department of Public Health has undertaken several activities to collect, analyze and visualize place-based events. As part of modernizing surveillance infrastructure, Georgia (a) made address data collection central in new surveillance, (b) enhanced access to geocoding services in the department, and (c) created a master address database. In this presentation, Dr. Bryan will present on his experience in data modernization and activities left undone.
