- How NC DWR Utilized GIS to Modernize Sanitary Sewer Overflow Reporting
The NC DWR recently launched a new app to increase awareness of reported Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO). Currently, these SSOs are publicized in newspapers and other media outlets; however, DWR received requests from the public for a more modern method. As a result, DWR developed an online tool to help identify where these SSOs were occurring, volume spilled, and proximity to recreational waters. The app highlights the most recent spills which have occurred in the last 7 days through a graduated blue dot based on estimated volumealong with other reported SSOs within a year.

- Crowd Sourcing QC: A Utility GIS Solution
At the City of Altamonte Springs, FL, the Public Works Department depends on the GIS team to accurately digitize, maintain, and display utility GIS data. As Public Works relies on GIS, GIS relies on Public Works to notify the GIS team of changes to real-world utility infrastructure. This presentation will showcase the GIS team’s solution for addressing inaccuracies in utility GIS data throughout a data change request’s lifecycle.
