- Re-establishing GIS’s Identity in Small County Government
Franklin County, VA is a community of 56K at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. Since 2018 a refreshed effort has been undertaken to establish a more central identity for GIS within the framework of the County’s internal and external operations. We would like the share some the lessons we’ve learned along the way so that other jurisdictions may benefit from our successes, failures, and other adventures we’ve had so far. We are seeing increased adoption and interest, but there’s still a long way to go toward achieving our ultimate vision as a GIS-centric organization.

- Planning for Equity: Let's Activate ATL!
The City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation has developed an Equity Data Tool to support equitable implementation of their new Activate ATL: Recreation & Parks for All 10-Year Master Plan. The data in the DPR EDT clearly showed that inequities and disparities exist across Atlanta's parks and recreation system, particularly between North and South Atlanta. This project can be useful to the audience as they consider data points for evaluating community need. Data is foundational to advancing equity because it tells a transparent story about what’s happening in our communities.
