With over 2,800 miles of water main and 68,000 pipe segments in WaterOne’s GIS system, it can be a difficult task to prioritize which of those water mains to replace or inspect each year. The number of main breaks, age, material, soil corrosivity and proximity to critical users are just a few of the factors WaterOne considers. In Recent years WaterOne has purchased Asset Management software that leverages ESRI software and completed their first pilot program with an AI/ML company to help identify mains at high risk for future breaks.

NBC Universal Studios Hollywood has been relying on GIS to manage their utilities across the campus for years now. Their work initially started with surveying and cataloging all underground utilities across their campus, but has quickly grown to include so much more than utilities. NBCU now utilizes GIS to help forecast their utility usage, plan for capital improvement projects, manage indoor space and assets, and model their campus in 3D. This presentation will walk through the timeline of technology on the campus and the different projects that have benefited from GIS.
