This project highlights the importance of street sweeping in vibrant urban communities and introduces a data-driven approach to optimize street sweeping. By leveraging GIS data and spatial statistics, a city can identify areas that need frequent cleaning and adjust services accordingly. The study reveals the impact trees and population density on debris accumulation. The data-driven approach promotes fairness, coordination, and transparency while reducing the carbon footprint. Additionally, public engagement and notifications enhance community involvement in maintaining clean streets.

Fairfax County, VA and Hazen developed an innovative asset management program to predict the risk of stream channel migration into sewer assets within the stream corridor. Built on a desktop analysis using ArcPy scripting and ArcGIS Pro, a prioritized list of at-risk assets for exposure was developed. GIS served as the major integrator of engineering fields, capturing risk from assets, stream dynamics, and watershed perspectives. The project has moved into a programmatic field data collection phase using ArcGIS Online and is proactively reducing the risk of sanitary sewer overflows.
