Distributed energy resources management systems (DERMS) are state-of-the-art systems that seamlessly integrate high penetration of DERs into the grid, aimed to enable DSOs to overcome the issues caused by DERs and maximize the benefits of these novel resources. Leveraging Data Requirements for Accurate Microgrid Short-Circuit Calculations
DERs integration into power systems is often performed through the microgrid concept to increase service reliability. Since microgrids should be able to operate smoothly in two distinct modes—grid-connected and islanded, their fault currents can widely fluctuate depending on the operational mode. As the fault current values directly impact the relay protection settings, and a microgrid can suddenly switch from one operating mode to another, it is essential to have accurate fault calculation results within a microgrid.
