Tacoma Power has undertaken a multi-year project to migrate their existing GE Smallworld (GESW) GIS to a modern Esri GIS including the ArcGIS Utility Network. A focus of the first phase of the project is migrating Tacoma Power’s existing GESW data into the UN and configuring the UN to deploy subnetworks for the entire electrical distribution system. The presentation will focus on the tools and techniques used to migrate Tacoma Power’s existing GESW into the ArcGIS UN including initial data mapping, data migration, establishment of the ArcGIS Utility Network, and development of UN subnetworks.

Montana-Dakota Utilities Group (MDUG) is in the process of migrating from ArcGIS Geometric Network to ArcGIS Enterprise and the Utility Network (UN). In preparation, as a key component within the design phase of the project, MDUG GIS Technical Leadership and SSP Business Architects worked together to identify the business drivers, current state data management and editing processes, desired future state data management and editing processes, and stakeholders are that will be impacted by the implementation of the UN.
