GIS data is critical in the management of California’s water systems. This session will discuss the tools being used to further increase the accuracy of hydrography data as well as share new ways to monitor and visualize groundwater.

Presentation 1 Abstract:
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) recently launched a website for California’s Groundwater Live (CalGW Live) to improve public access to live groundwater data. During the presentation, DWR will introduce the website and its contents. CalGW Live uses ArcGIS Online webmaps, storymaps, and interactive dashboards to display data for current groundwater conditions, groundwater levels, well infrastructure, and land subsidence. All dashboards include a variety of filtering options and dynamic indicators to empower users to create customized data summaries.

Presentation 2 Abstract:
Since 2015, the CA Department of Water Resources has partnered with two CSU GIS research centers to improve the mapping of the state's surface waters for The National Map. This team works with ArcMap tools built by USGS to improve the accuracy of the National Hydrography Dataset. However, the tools are getting rusty, and NHD users really need higher spatial accuracy, so the CA Stewardship Team is preparing for the next generation of national hydrography data - the 3D Hydrography Program - by building out custom ArcPro tools to meet both the soft and hard requirements of the new dataset.
