Wildland fires in the West are an obvious problem. GIS helps keep potential victims safe, but what happens when a county GIS department is tasked with mapping out evacuation zones with input from multiple emergency response agencies that all have differing needs and approaches? Throughout this past summer and fall, the GIS Department of Douglas County, Nevada gathered information from the Sherriff's Office, two Fire Districts, and our Search and Rescue team, and mapped out complete evacuation scenarios for natural disaster response within the County.

READY Mono (READY.Mono.ca.gov) is designed to provide residents and visitors of Mono County with emergency readiness, response, and recovery resources, and share real-time information and critical updates before, during, and after an emergency or natural disaster. Residents can sign up for emergency alerts, find information on evacuation zones, prepare for emergencies, and explore recovery resources. As a small county, we needed a public information platform that was easy to use and adaptable. ArcGIS Hub allowed our team to quickly stand up a centralized source of local emergency information.
