Presentation 1 Abstract:
PG&E identified a need to mark Road and Railway crossings along 10,000+ miles of complex natural gas distribution pipe. Complex GIS analysis was performed in order to determine pipeline marker placement at those crossings. This presentation will present the strategy used to develop a Class Location analysis for short distribution lines, the analysis performed to ensure all Class 1 and Class 2 segments were captured, and the Field Maps workflow employed to track marker placement for reporting.

In viticulture, the standard method of providing maps and field information is the Vineyard Book: a three-ring binder of Google Earth screen shots and excel print outs providing block-level information on various properties. Information exchange in this form is often slow, has an expiration date, and is static. This saps efficiency from employees who work in the field, often resulting in additional trips and duplicate work as changes are made or data corrected. Seasonal and temporary employees are particularly impacted as they tend to lack the context around each location.
