The rationale to implement the APR was that the legacy pipeline data management system could no longer run due to Esri and Oracle software upgrades The primary requirements were to be able to 1. maintain pipeline geometries and pipeline features handling new as-builts or pipeline modifications 2. transform events recorded in an “along pipeline” reference system to a real world coordinate reference system. 3. submit data to regulatory bodies in a range of (geo) formats. Apart from these requirements NAM also expects the following benefits from the implementation 1. the use of industry standards to store the pipeline related data and off the shelf software should make it easier to get support from outside the organization and exchange data with 3rd parties 2. the ability to quicker assess inline and outer pipeline inspection data with standard ArcGIS Pro / AGOL for 3D or time lapse analyses. NAM spends much effort in collecting pipeline integrity event data, but tools to assess these in an integrated way could be used more extensively. There is an opportunity for further value derivation from the inspection data that may contribute to prevent pipeline failure. This presentation also covers the re-conceptualisation into geometry, routes, measures, point and line events.
