Enel in developing various digital advanced solutions for renewable power plant Development,Design&Execution processes to make the whole project digital-value chain more efficient and sustainable using GIS technology.Tools in the development phase, help us identify potential sites, cadastral management & visualize the scouting progress in a real time dashboard. In Engineering phase, python based GIS tool help us to perform Environmental multi-variate constraint analysis to identify environmental sensitivities in project area.Another inhouse model facilitates location optimization of wind power plants to avoid visual impact from "sensitive" points of view, located around project area. We also have internally designed an arcpy tool for automatically extracting useful slopes areas for optimal Solar panel installation area.Lastly, in construction phase, we created construction monitoring apps to update status of process completion. Also, we use machine learning tools to extract solar panel installed areas & estimate construction velocity using satellite images.In the end, we combine all the data generated in 3 phases in a 2D and 3D maps to visualize the timeline of Project development.
Oman is following the need for sustainable development, and as part of its renewable energy goals, Oman announced in 2019 the initiative to install rooftop solar PV systems in approximately 100000 residential premises. Hence, this project is estimating the potential of electricity production in Seeb, Oman by installing a rooftop PV system on the building’s roofs and the expected reduction in CO2 emissions respectively. Then, compare the results with the actual electricity consumption. GIS Based methodology is used in this project using three primary datasets which are DEM, building footprint and electricity consumption. These datasets are processed and analysed using the ArcGIS platform. Furthermore, the methodology used two solar radiation models developed by Esri. The results show that up to 51% of the electricity consumed in the study area can be covered by the electricity produced from rooftop PV systems, which equals 2405 GWh/Year. However, the results are subjected to the used solar model, estimations and assumptions. Such a detailed project is rarely available for Oman, Furthermore, it can be used as a backbone to dig deeper into other related topics like the rebound effect.
